Jimmy Smith Live! - Root Down - Verve

Recorded live in LA in '72, B3 specialist Smith delivers one of the most terrifying performances of his career in theis reissue. Holy shit. A crack rythm section, conga drums & lotsa wa-wa heat this sucka up nicely. Damn.

(If the title sounds familiar, you're right: the Beastie Boys co-opted Root Down (hate to use the term 'sampled' anymore ... esp. since the BB's did quite a bit more than that to it) on an early album. )

Also contains a pretty darn groovy version of 'Let's Stay Together,' the song Al Green made famous.
